Ugh… We don’t really see ourselves as abstract artists in the purest sense of the artistic meaning because we are always looking to “see” something in the photo. Even when we take cloud photos we find that we are discovering if an animal shape or face is coming through in the floating clouds.
We do love the bird soaring through the clouds and can focus on them long enough to get some free form clouds floating around them giving the entire scene some context of reality. Ha ha ha! We do occasionally end up finding something identifiable but morph a portion of that into an abstract photo. It’s a learning process and we shall see how big this collection will be but it sure is fun to play with.
Another way that this abstract photo category is presenting itself to my eye and imagination is through the markings of color in a horses coat or in some weathering of wood, metal, etc. In my minds eye I can see various layers of hair color weaved into a horses natural coat would be a subtle addition to art on the wall in a canvas so as just to reiterate the tonal language throughout the house or space that you are decorating in a unique manner.
Nature photography lends itself to find abstract shapes and objects and colors and create stunning and unusual art. Together we seek to discover these shapes in our natural environment and photograph them at different angles. Sometimes these items are right in front of your face. Stay tuned.
